At Ten Ton Hammer, I wrote a slightly sarcastic article about advertising creeping into games and MMORPG's. My thought is that as long as the ads enhance the experience, as long at they're relevant and dont detract from the game, it's not all bad. However, I think that most companies wont think of the player demographic before they actually put the ads in. http://www.lotro.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=112
It's a tough call, game companies are facing higher costs of production, companies are suddenly realizing how many people actually play games and marketers want to enter a new market that has a captive audience. I dont think it's inherently bad, but I can imagine that the bad ads will blow-back into their faces with lots of negativity. |
Good Lord, is that Castle Wolfenstein?? |
Love that picture of doom! So classic! |
I LOVE your picture Philipp :-)
And it's not doom, Erik is right, it the famous (return to the) Castle Wolfenstein! |
No it's not... it's "Wolfenstein 3d"! |
... yep, it's Wolfenstein 3D, a game that was banned in Germany... because it includes Nazi imagery! Swastikas aren't allowed in video games here, only in movies, because according to Clueless Big Brother, movies are art and video games aren't :) |
That's unfortunate, because Nazis provide an endless source of video game enemies. |
