When the guy finally does buy the Kelly Clarkson CD, just how would the marketers know this was as a result of him seeing the ad on the train seat, so a commission can be paid?

I thought of pay-per-display, not pay-per-sale... so whoever sells the ad space on the train makes a commission on whatever the bidder is willing to pay per ad displayed. Though with a little face recognition software, you could match the buyer when she later buys the tune... and the ad display could also directly connect to a shopping site...

Just inject the person with a RFID cookie* for that product. The entity that injected the last RFID cookie gets the commission.

maybe putting a robot.txt on a perfectly visible place (like your cap) would make the deal. all engines will respect it...
