The Google Blog Search link posted above makes me wonder why Google doesn't provide a "translate" option for their blog search results. |
Or news search, or book search (that would be really great, but hard). |
Technorati results are mostly useless. That's because they don't have any ranking mechanism. If I search for [google], for example, I get nothing interesting, just random posts from the last 24 hours that mention "google" somewhere on the site (posts that are not about Google, either).
Their approach doesn't scale – it's similar to a Digg search right now, which is good simply because the data set which Digg works on is quite small & restricted & useful. I search Digg for "google" and I get interesting posts, about 1 out of 20. As soon as Digg gets 10,000 submissions/ hour reg. "google" its search will also become useless. |
