Wanted to revisit this one more time. Does anyone else's GMail icon in the toolbar flip up as if to say 'you have new gmail,' when in fact, the inbox is empty?

Yes sometimes. and on top of that if you are using the firefox version and you click help then it send you to the Toolbar for Internet Explorer Help Center
