You'd *guess* – or at least I would – that Picasa or Picasaweb would be somewhere behind Flickr in popularity, or at least would have had to work hard to catch up. But they're pretty close on Google Trends:

And didn't people at the time wonder why Google didn't try to buy Flickr before Yahoo did? They chose YouTube instead. Why? We know that was a sensible decision, but Google Trends shows *quite* how much of a phenomenon YouTube is, comparatively:

I don't think Google's Picasa web is doing as well as flickr.
You used the terms "flickr" and "picasa", but when I did a trend search using "flickr" and "picasaweb", it is definitely clear who the winner is.
*picasa (the software) vs. flickr http://www.google.com/trends?q=flickr%2C+picasa&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all
*picasaweb (the web album) vs. flickr http://www.google.com/trends?q=flickr,+picasaweb&date=all&geo=all&ctab=0&sa=N
Picasa is the software you use to organize photos and videos so I think your comparison is inaccurate. |
According to the graph, it looks like Picasa 2.0 shook the world! |
I agree with jennyPenny, though you can use flicker to *organise* you pictures on the web. |
As this is the search trend and not the popularity trend, it *may* simply indicate that a relatively higher percentage of people don't know how to find Picasa, whereas most people found out where Flickr is. |
Yeah.
Google should just call Picasa Web Albums "Google Photos". Google is very inconsistent with the Picasa Web Albums name.
On the Gmail interface the "Photos" link takes you to picasaweb.google.com. When you click on the "all my services" link and go to My Accounts page, you have "Picasa" instead of "Photos". =oS |
!!!
Somebody from Google must've seen our posts above (or maybe it was just a coincidence) 'cause they changed the "Picasa" link to "Picasa Web Albums"! I noticed this change today when I went to the My Accounts page. |
