I just purcashed a domain through Google Apps and was checking the GoDaddy DNS Control and saw that a subdomain of "docs" is listed.

However, I cannot get to the subdomain. Any ideas how to get this early?

I was actually waiting for someone else to catch this. It has already happened:

That's an example domain from one of my clients who I convinced to use Google Apps domain registration. It's fully usable.

If I can reach it then I'm pretty sure anyone else can too. Just type http://docs.google.com/a/(domain).com

pacificdave, are you sure that screenshot is for the custom domain you are hosting with Google Apps and you didn't just get redirected to the usual Google Docs site?

Whenever I've tried to go to http://docs.google.com/a/(domain).com I just get redirected to a "Service not available" page or because the service has not yet been enabled.

I am having the same results as Tony; pacificdave's trick doesn't work.

Nope... I'm sure. I could dig a little deeper if you guys want but on the cover I'm seeing my domain account info at the top-right and since I've never used Docs under that domain account it's showing the "Welcome to Google Docs & Spreadsheets!" bit.

Note that it only works so far for accounts that registered a domain name through Google Apps and not for Google Apps accounts that use the service but didn't register the domain through Google. Well, it's working that way for me.

It seems everything about Docs & Spreadsheets integration with Google Apps is the same except the settings menu. You can check it out for yourself:

http://www.pacificdave.com/google/docs-general-settings-domain.jpg

http://www.pacificdave.com/google/docs-document-settings-domain.jpg

http://www.pacificdave.com/google/docs-spreadsheets-settings-domain.jpg

As you'll notice... the RSS Feeds tab within settings is missing. Everything else is exactly the same as regular Docs & Spreadsheets. Same version numbers for both Docs & Spreadsheets also.

Thanks pacificdave. There's no question about it then.

Does it also appear in your list of services in the GAFYD Dashboard?

Kevin,

What happens if you login to either of these pages?

https://www.google.com/a/kevindonovan.org/ServiceLogin?service=wise
https://www.google.com/a/kevindonovan.org/ServiceLogin?service=writely

(I hope you don't mind me including links to your domain here – I figured that since it was in your screenshot, you wouldn't mind – but if you'd rather not have it displayed, let me know and I'll edit it out.)

BTW, as you can see if you follow those links, this is the text Google are using on the Docs & Spreadsheets login page:

<<

why are they not releasing presently at this time? i would have thought a big update would have made sense at launch.

Don't forget that Docs & Spreadsheets hasn't officially been released as GAFYD service yet, so there's still time. However, even then, GAFYD services often don't include all the latest features. (Gmail, for example, still doesn't have the Mail Fetcher.)

I think it's highly likely that they'll push an update to Docs & Spreadsheets that includes "Presently" and a charts tool for Spreadsheets soon (as Garett points out over on Googling Google*). Whether those features will also be included in the GAFYD service is anyone's guess. It would certainly be something more to shout about if they released them simultaneously!

[put at-character here]Kevin,
why do you have created a new thread about something we was already talking about here :

?

Tony –

I get:

"Error

Invalid page request"

for both after being prompted to log in.

(Don't worry about using my domain... I'll be happy to try other possibilities out and will be sure to screenshot anything important.)

I guess I could ask the same thing about why Luca created a new thread about something we were already discussing here:

http://blogoscoped.com/forum/85335.html

;-)

It's always tricky to know when to merge threads and move comments but once a discussion has started over a new point (in this case, proof that Docs and Spreadsheets had actually been added to a GAFYD account rather than speculation) I think it's better to leave existing threads as they are, especially if they're already buried low down in the forum.

(Also, the launch of GAFYD Premium/Premier and the integration of Google Docs & Spreadsheets with GAFYD might not necessarily be linked... although it looks more and more likely.)

In addition to what Tony said (which I all agree with), I created the new thread because the screenshot provides a unique addition to the speculation.

I had hoped that those interested could have a talk about the domain management as a hint of things to come, but you decided to hijack the thread with a petty, inane comment.

"I created the new thread because the screenshot provides a unique addition to the speculation. "
OK I understand, especially for the "unique addition". But Tony's thread has 2 weeks old, unlike Luca's thread was still on the top of the first page when this one was created. That's why I asked that.

"a petty, inane comment."
> It was just a question :) Be quiet :)
