They moved to layouts. I'd like to do that as well, but it's too difficult to manually change a lot of things.

Very nice search feature. Perhaps they are using it as a bit of a testing ground for future homepage changes?

It's been included in googleajaxsearchapi.blogspot.c ... for a while, but it seems kind of out-of-place. The search box is really disconnected from the search results, there's no message if there's no result, no pagination. Some searches fill the whole space (blogs, news), others show fixed-size results (web search).

In Firefox when you right click on it and select properties you get a window titled "Element Properties" and inside it it says "Miscellaneous Properties" "Title: clear results"

If you do a search, the search results replace the blog.
When you click the X, the search results disappear and the blog is displayed again.

I bet they'll put the old search box back.
