Ionut lets you easily compare different mobile search engines: http://googlesystem.googlepages.com/mobile-compare.html

It's a cool idea, I guess. But it's slightly depressing – the only reason they made it is so users have to do the minimum number of key presses. I'd much prefer a mobile device that it didn't matter that you had to limit yourself in this manner. To be more open, there needs to be imagination and the power to drive it.

Try these simple hacks..

You can change the 'uipref' value between 1 to 3.

http://www.google.com/m?uipref=1

Or, interestingly, when adding new modules/items to the new Google Mobile page, check the url... you should see a change from:

http://www.google.com/m?uipref=1

to something like this:

http://www.google.com/m?uipref=1&igtyp=25&action=addmod&feedurl=http%3A%2F%2Frss.cnn.com%2Frss%2Fcnn_topstories.rss

You can use this to add other feeds that are not listed by Google. For instance, I've added Google Blogoscoped's feed using:

http://www.google.com/m?uipref=1&igtyp=25&action=addmod&feedurl=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.outer-court.com%2Frss.xml

Or just simply adding this to the end of the url address..

&igtyp=25&action=addmod&feedurl=http%3A%2
F%2Fblog.outer-court.com%2Frss.xml

.. and replacing the feed address with whatever you want.

HOWEVER.. do note that once you've added your own feeds, reordering or removing them through the settings page won't work. I guess they can't recognise the custom feeds added. I presume clearing your browser cache/cookie would 'reset' the page.

PS – Sorry if my terminology ain't absolutely correct..

This seems like a step in the direction of Yahoo's oneSearch update they recently made to their Mobile Search.

http://mobile.yahoo.com/mobileweb/onesearch

Yahoo made a PDF that compares Yahoo's mobile search to Google's (since updated) mobile search:

http://mobile.yahoo.com/pdf/compare_onesearch.pdf

Even with Google's update, I think Yahoo's oneSearch is way smarter.

Mobile will disappear not so long. A wearable pc with Glass screen will replace the laptop and Mobile.

Google Mobile search is a lite Google search. So "Web mobile" should join to "Web". And I do remember a post http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2006-10-24-n60.html, we can make link to be button that can save rare space at this small mobile screen.

But I did not know if multi buttons can work at Mobile.

For ABC sorts, my A is Google Search, my B is Gmail. So I make the Gmail login panel at home page. Also should be at per pages if not logined.

After login, can browse Email at Gmail, Also can use the links to swift to other services.

Yahoo's search is not better. They hand-optimize their most popular queries because their search technology can't deliver good organic results.

This new Google Mobile is way better than before. Its got some of the functionality of Yahoo OneSearch.

And speaking of Yahoo OneSearch, I cannot see it on my mobile right now. I am at http://m.yahoo.com and browsing through the list and cannot see a search box. There are bunch of services like

Address Book (Classic, Beta).....all the way upto Weather but no Search. There is an additional Local Listings though which is not listed or present in of the online preview pages of Yahoo or mobile-compare page of Google System.

I got no choice as of now.

I like it.

(But why oh why do people keep introducing weather modules etc that only offer farenheit? I'm sure they'll add a centigrade option at some point but for the sake of goodwill – and it isn't hard – Google etc should always remember the rest of the world, ie outside the US, in the first instance.)

Talking about Google mobile, you can't recover your password if you use gmail and you have forgotten your password.

Plus some of Google Mobile features is that mobile browser have different behaviors.
