How would you react if google decided to change from Google.com to Google.net? Going to Google.com would still redirect to Google.net until people got used to it, then like Google.org is for the Google Foundation, Google.com would serve for commercial and business purposes. |

I would (probably correctly) assume that Google went crazy :) |

Why.net? for bisunesses they culd use http://google.biz |

Well then forget that part entirely. Let's say they kept everything the way it is, only instead, Google.com would redirect to Google.net. Everything would be exactly the same, only it would be at Google.net. |

Well i guess you wouldn't know until they made a blog post explaining it at gooleblog.blogspot.net :P but i'm asking how you'd react before you found out. |

If you want to get anal, the .net domain was originally intended for internet service providers, NOT as a general "internet" TLD. Therefore, I think .com suits them adequatly for now (before the .srch domain is rolled out in 2016) |

they are already a domain registar and are laying our Dark fibre optics and have their "secret" data in a container strategy, including free wifi in SFA /bay area..
So they are an ISP.but a small one for the time being.. if they own the pipes, then it becomes a lock in for the users of all properties.. |

".google" might make more sense in 2016. Then you can have your wiki page (jot.google), your blog (blog.google), your homepage (page.google), your email (mail.google) and so on, and there will be no more domain/ trademark disputes ;) |

LOL I like Philipp's train of thought here. |
stefan2904 | 17 years ago # |

No, no... domain names will become obsolete. Everyone will simply find stuff through Google. ;) |
