Matt, can you assist in retrieving an old Gmail add that I know is not being used? I would really appreciate it. |
yeah I wish they would replenish /release the ID's that have no activity in them.. at least publsh their policy on this issue.. |
well, i was one of the VERY first gmail users. I had a blogger blog, and right when Gmail came out, they invited Blogger users to sign up. And I had the Gmail add I wanted, and for some inexplicable reason I said, "nah, don't need this now,' and zapped it. I know it's not being used. |
I just checked, Gmail does have their own official help group – maybe you can post there and they can help: http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Discussion |
I will do that but I know Matt reads here and might be able to go the back route. It would mean a lot. |
why would they release them? Gmail, unlike hotmail and yahoo, is trying to be a permanent "address for life". One of the most annoying things about hotmail and yahoo mail is that they delete all of your old emails if you don't check it every sixty days. |
Colin C. wrote a nice overview on how to contact Google: http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2007-04-13-n13.html |
I thought they "recycled" old addresses after a long while. |
Not necessarily James. These help entries are for deleted dormant accounts, although I would assume the same rules apply to accounts you've deleted yourself. Note the difference in wording between the US and UK versions though...
<< What happens to dormant accounts?
If you don't log in to your account for an extended period of time, we'll mark it as dormant. After nine consecutive months of inactivity, Google may delete the account and all messages within that account.
If your dormant account is deleted, we can't guarantee that your username will be made available again. Make sure to log in to Gmail regularly! >>
