anyone knows why Google changed their first logo only after one month? (and why the hell it had too much green in it?) |
the green just doesnt fit |
The! is/was because of Yahoo! Green, hmm, maybe cause of the nature. :) (But its Gimp-made i think) |
Because its horrible and pointing the wrong way, in not out. |
That green is definitely inspired by lego blocks. |
Do you think Google will ever update their logo in the future? Like... say in 30 years?
Everyone thought Apple had a winning, timeless formula with their coloured Apple logo, yet they still changed it. And it paid off.
A better question I suppose would be, will Google ever NEED to change their logo? |
Well, Apple's change was hardly significant though although needed. By simply replacing the colours with an silver fade effect simple brought the logo into the 21st century.
As for Google, it will never need to change it's logo IMO. If you look at all the major search engines (Google, Yahoo! and Ask) – there logo is simple the name in text. (Windows Live is kind of, although it has the Aero bubble aswell – but that's mainly because it's part of the Windows family of products). |
I think Google will just lose the bevel and drop shadow – which is so 1990s – and they're already doing that on a lot of their new products (iGoogle for example) and printed materials. |
I hadn't really thought of the bevel, I guess they could drop it in the future, but I doubt they will do anything within the decade – especially after Google was voted one of the most recognizable brands in the world. |
Since the Google brand is growing popular around the world, I don't see Google making a major change to their main logo any time soon. |
David asked: > anyone knows why Google changed their first logo only after one month?
The "Google Sticker" page suggests that "faithful user ... Jesse Rios" submitted a shadowed logo "which inspired the shadowing in our current logo".
The "Google Sticker" page also shows the first two seasonal logos (based on the 98/99 version), for the Burning man festival and for Thanksgiving: http://web.archive.org/web/19990508132024/www.google.com/stickers.html |
Looks like Google still likes the color green ; :P http://www.google.com/ig/images/igoogle_logo_sm.gif |
