The story with the HD-DVD processing key (09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0), the third most popular digg story of all time, and on it's way to be the second, got removed. Posters account got removed. People that posted story about removal claims that they also got banned.

Digg it so it will get to the homepage: http://www.digg.com/linux_unix/How_I_got_banned_from_Digg

The story I linked to was promoted to the front page, and than pulled after just a couple of minutes. It contained only neutral informations about digg's team actions.

I think that's what's really getting to people now, though the whole situation seems a bit crazy right now. New stories keep popping up and getting hundreds of hits and then getting pulled. But the major complaint in the comments now is these stories aren't talking about the key, but rather abuot digg censorship and they're getting pulled.

Well they got a Cease and Desist... so did Google and other blogs. This post might get one too. Free Speech is the issue though. I saw the Digg and put it in Google Notebooks :P

BTW, how do you like my new poem? All numbers and preceding them uppercase letters are entirely accidental.

there were 09 planets
in the solar system
Fucking 9 planets
not 11
and not 02
but exactly 9 Damn planets
right in the middle
and everyone seemed happy

until 74 professors
meet on the conference
and started to wonder:
"we should have Exactly 3 planets
in our system" – proposed one
other opposed:
"regarding number of planets,
my colleague's idea with 5 Bothers me a little
shouldn't we make them Deliberately 8?"

41 professors liked the idea,
but 56 voted against it.
the revolutionists mobilized their base
and Called 5 scholars who couldn't come
to ask about their opinion
and couple more sent their votes via e-mail
at the end 63 votes for the change
and 56 were still against it

"nnow wwhen wwe hhave oonly 88 pplanets
wwhih oone sshould wwe rremove?"
- asked the stammerer
"pluto" – their all agreed.
there was no point in keeping this planet
disney stopped paying for the product placement
years ago

but the point is – how many normal people
they asked? people from different Countries? 0.
shame on them. let's go and watch a movie.

WOW! I posted this poem in comments to this story:

http://www.digg.com/hardware/Google_blogs_issued_with_AACS_Cease_Desist

It immediately got some positive diggs, but was removed in just a minute. I have to say I didn't expect that. Even poetry is now censored in the war against consumer freedom? ;)

Some other stories about digg's censorship (?) issue, with a massive number of diggs, that didn't make it to the homepage (yet? :>):

WOW! At the moment all stories but one on digg's homepage are about HD-DVD key...

Ludwik Trammer [PersonRank 10]

OK, now ALL frontage stories are about HD-DVD, many of which have the key in its title.
Me feature request: http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Feature_request_Digg_should_add_HD_DVD_key_section ;)

Wow, digg does not like getting censored. It's half warranted since stories ABOUT the key story were getting removed too. I don't think Kevin Rose could have forseen the kind of diggmob that's been unleashed.

Tonight is the first time I've enjoyed Digg.

This sort of action was also taken when the Content-Scrambling System (CSS) was cracked for DVDs back in 1999/2000.

You can still buy t-shirts that have the perl DeCSS code written on them.

Holy Cow! The first 2 or 3 pages on Digg are all related to either the censhorship on Digg over the HD DVD key or are posts showing the HD DVD key.

Here's an actual website that seems on topic:
http://09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63 .com/

[had to put in space before the ".com" for it to post]

Base 10:
13,256,278,887,989,457,651,018,865,901,401,704,640

Binary:
1001 11111001 00010001 00000010 10011101 01110100 11100011 01011011 11011000 01000001 01010110 11000101 01100011 01010110 10001000 11000000

But my favorite is this poem:

Oh nine, eff nine, one won oh too!
Nine dee, seven for, eee three, five bee.
Dee ate for one,
Five sicks,
See five,
Six three, five sicks, ate eight sea oh!

"WOW! At the moment all stories but one on digg's homepage are about HD-DVD key..."

thats what you get for banning a digg that got 15,000 diggs and was about to eclipse the iphone 20,000 record.

kevin rose blogs about it here:
http://blog.digg.com/?p=74

"But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you ’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be."

Digg it: http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Digg_This_09_f9_11_02_9d_74_e3_5b_d8_41_56_c5_63_56_88_c0_4

In one moment both first and second Digg frontage had ONLY HD-DVD stories. HUNDREDS of HD-DVD Keys. Insane.

But what's interesting now – it's Digg's stuff (Digg's founder in fact) who posted the key, both on digg and digg's blog. So they can't fight back by saying "it's not us, it's our user, it's not our fault" anymore.

But big kudos for Kevin for changing him mind. It's hard to change a decision because of an argument. Most people just get angry ;]
