AskX Finally Integrated?

I went to http://ask.com and was redirected to ask Netherlands for some reason http://nl.ask.com so to see what happened I went to http://us.ask.com and it stuck with a new layout. I think they finally integrated AskX with their main search with a bait of universal Search thrown in. Apart from looking good with many skins it still gives out crappy results.

Yes I noticed that on the "Google's Blogs" section after I posted it.

The " search " image on Ask is very similar to the one on Live Search:

Ask:

Live:

Why is there not a single mention of "AskX" on Ask's post about Ask3d? This is a rebranding of an old product which was already live, and they pretend it's an unprecedented announcement ("A Truly New Way to Search") and that AskX never existed...

Ask3D sounds really stupid. In every product you can find 3 or more dimensions if you want.

<< Why is there not a single mention of "AskX" on Ask's post about Ask3d? >>

Maybe because not many people knew about AskX and those who didn't know should think this is something completely new and innovative. They do mention this new version was tested for quite some time.

From an April post (http://blog.ask.com/2007/04/wiis_and_we_at_.html):

<< Daniel Read's "Search for Inspiration" presentation gave folks an exclusive peek at the process behind creating AskX. He also announced (1) that AskX would be the next iteration of the Ask.com search engine, and (2) that it would be combined with the new Edison Algorithm, which you may have heard about already. >>

http://www.Ask3d.com returns nothing but this text:

"/ask/www/static-pages/default"

A Whois query suggests it might be theirs...

It says "That's why we tested Ask3D for nearly 6 months with 5% of our 25-30 million monthly users."

I don't think it's a big deal they don't mention Ask X by name, since it was not know to many people outside the SE geek world.

Hmm, i don't get all the hype on techmeme. This just seems like the same Ask with a new interface, so what? They are making it sound like some great new technology Ask is using. If I remember correctly, Ask has been showing results from verticals for a while, only that now it's in a different format, and more in your face i guess.

Gotta love the comments on the Ask blog...

"Looks great, but where is Jeeves???"

I like the look- I am gonna try it. I still say Ask Mail is lurking somewhere.

Why would ask get into mail? They suck at everything (except sucking of course) and there are already so many mail out there.
AND, they can't compete with Gmail,GMail,GoogleMail, Google Mail or whatever other varients people use. I like Gmail
