More Amiga Games on Video
For nostalgia’s sake, here’s a second video [WMV] of great old Amiga 500 games. (Also see the first video.)
The games shown are, in order of appearance:
- Chambers of Shaolin: Fighting game with a touch of philosophy and kung-fu movies.
- Lost Patrol: A Vietnam strategy game with arcade mini-games.
- Paradroid 90: A tribute to an older classic which was already popular on the C64. You control a small robot which can connect and overtake bigger robots.
- Dune: One of the later Amiga games. Impressive graphics in this adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic Sci-Fi novel (which was made into a movie by David Lynch, and the game graphics let its actor Kyle MacLachlan shine through).
- Hunter: One of the rare real-time 3D games. This one takes place on an island; you can steer a variety of vehicles.
- James Pond 2: A jump’n’run sequel. Candy graphics.
- Prince of Persia: This game is still alive today in 3D. Even back then, it had impressively smooth 2D graphics.
- Projectyle: A futuristic sports arena action game.
- Speedball: Another futuristic sports game, with a brutal edge and cool graphics.
- Virus: A 3D shooter. Steering the 3D spaceship wasn’t too easy with a 2D interface (the mouse).
- Sword of Sodan: Giant sprites fight it out in this straightforward fantasy hack’n’slay.
- Pinball Fantasies: Coming with this pinball game collection were four fun tables (this game saw sequels).
- Rod Race: Sort of like George Lucas’ American Graffiti movie. Paint your car, and take a race downtown in a 50s setting.
- Stunt Car Racer: Yet another 3D game, this one had you racing crazy routes performing jumps and loops.
- Super Hang On: Nothing but fun bike racing. This one was adapted from the arcades.
The credit for the soundtrack again goes to Creative-Commons-licensed music available on Archive.org: Jean Nine (Bubblemaster/ Kahvi netlabel), Jobe (Jobe - Copypas Technology/ Kahvi netlabel), and Siji’s radio show “Down with the Chairman.”
