Which Startup Will Google Buy?

Straight from the rumor mill, Siggi Becker pointed me to this interesting bit by ZDNet’s Steve Gillmor, written yesterday:

“The CEO of a major startup soon to be bought by Google agreed with me, saying Writely works just fine.”

Compare this to what Om Malik, senior writer at Business 2.0 magazine, had to say 5 days ago:

“I have heard whispers that Riya, a Redwood City, California-based photo service is being courted by Google.”

And here’s another twist in the plot: Riya’s homepage, as of short ago, was showing a full-fledged “Search your own photos” homepage (including illustrations detailing their face recognition technology). And now? Now it says:

“Riya is getting a little TLC...

Check back soon... Thanks for your patience!”
