Selling Online Access at Google Books

You can now sell online access to your books at the Google Books Partner Program. From the help entry:

“Once you set a price for your book, users who discover it through Google Book Search will be able to pay for access to its full contents. The book will only be available to the user once they’ve signed in with their personal account, and will only be available through their browser.”

Google adds that “Users will not be able to save a copy on their computer nor copy pages from the book.” This kind of Digital Rights Management sounds like it may stifle a couple of “fair uses” as well.

For now, Google says the feature is available in the US and UK only (other countries will be added in the future).
