Google Acquiring Panoramio

Google announced they’re planning to acquire website Panoramio, “a website that enables digital photographers to geolocate, store and organize their photographs – and to view those photographs in Google Earth and Google Maps,” as they put it. Google say they aim to “incorporate that website, its underlying technology, its content, developers, and user community into the Google Geo product mix.” Blogger Justin Flavin comments, “This is excellent news, as it means that Panoramio will now be able to start using the immense Google infrastructure for the delivery of user submitted photos,” but Roger Browne comments, “Pyra labs said something like that when Blogger was bought out too, but Blogger stayed slow as treacle for years.”
