Google Acquired Postini

Google announced they’re
acquiring Postini, a company focussing on secure enterprise communication, for $625 million. Postini is supposed to make Google Apps – which brings the Google office, like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Talk, to companies – more secure.
With “35,000 businesses and 10 million users,” to cite the press release, this may be another Google landgrab (in the style of the DoubleClick and YouTube acquisitions) that has less to do with technology, and more with getting hold of new customers. Not to say that Postini isn’t interesting for its technology, too... here’s what they offer, from their homepage:
- “Secure all of your electronic communications - email, instant messaging, and the web.”
- “Manage your communication compliance policies for archiving, encryption and content from one central location.”
- “Manage your organizational policies at organization, group and user level.”
