What Wikipedia Would Look Like in Book Form...

Wikipedia showcases above image – the size of English Wikipedia, when printed out – and writes:

Using volumes 25cm high and 5cm thick (some 400 pages), each page having two columns, each columns having 80 rows, and each row having 50 characters, ~ 6MB per volume. As English Wikipedia has 4.4GB of text (October 2006) ~ 750 volumes. Note that this is a conservative estimate, as it doesn’t include images, tables etc. which take up more surface than the text which describes them.

Google’s CFO Leaves

Google today announced their Chief Financial Officer, George Reyes, is stepping down. Quote CEO Eric Schmidt from the press release, which doesn’t mention why George is leaving:

As Google’s CFO, George successfully navigated our innovative IPO, the regulatory demands of Sarbanes-Oxley, and the management challenges of scaling a global finance organization. Though we fully appreciate his decision to step back from active management, we’ll miss his thoughtfulness, good humor and wisdom.

(They “appreciate his decision” to step back? Shouldn’t the phrase be “respect his decision"?)
