Google Comic Doodle & Themes

The Google US homepage today includes a special doodle celebrating the Comic-Con (comic convention’s) 40th year [update: a bigger image of the logo is available]. The doodle is created by comic artist Jim Lee, well-known from the early 1990s – an era of comic cover gimmicks and superstar artists – when he left Marvel to co-create Image comics. The logo doodle shows DC’s Batman, Plastic Man, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow Lantern, and Batman side-kick Robin.

The doodle is linked to a new comics theme directory for iGoogle, Google’s personalized homepage. You will find themes like Captain America, Daniel Clowes (creator of Eightball), Dilbert, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jim Woodring, women of the DC universe, Iron Man, Superman, Hellen Jo, Hulk (with art by Dale Keown, and Tim Sale of Heroes fame), Vertigo, Garfield, Jaime Hernandez and many more. ’Nuff said.

[Thanks Tony & Caleb! Also see Google’s post on this.]
