Clicking on the logo opens a YouTube video with a song of John Lennon, |
Google told me: This is the first time we’ve created a video doodle and we simply wanted to give our users more time to enjoy it. If you may recall, we left the PAC-MAN doodle up for 48 hours a few months ago and we quickly realized that 48 hours wasn’t enough for our users. |
Doesn't work at google.com set to English when accessed from China. Not just because YouTube is blocked here (so it wouldn't work either way), but also because Google has a bug, introduced a while ago, which doesn't translate the alt-text to English when I set google.com to English. |
WebSonic.nl: Wrong, if Flash is not supported (in many mobile devices) it simply opens John Lennon search. |
I would really want to know how many times this video has been watched. Unfortunately Google disabled the stats for that one. |
*insert rant about usage of flash rather than HTML5 here*
Nice animated doodle though! |
Juha: on the official google mobile site you don't see the doodle tested with htc desire and iTouch |
Above Hebbet said there is a different doodle for the results page. logos/2010/lennon10-res.gif (178x62) http://blogoscoped.com/forum/174876.html#id174879
My results page shows a Google logo, not a doodle. intl/en/images/Logo_60wht.gif
On the iGoogle page I see a doodle similar to what Hebbet mentioned for the results page. It is similar in appearance to the one Hebbet mentioned, but it has a different name and size. logos/2010/lennon10-ig.gif (150x65)
I tried the Google search page from a browser without javascript. It does not show either a doodle or a Google logo.

what a lovely animation. so sweet and touching.
Happy Birthday John! |
Gerorge what browser do you use? |
What is that 'official Google mobile site' hebbet is pointing to, I use Blogoscoped mainly with mobile devices and due to this fact I can't see browser's status bar etc., things like that. |
Mozilla, Firefox, IE6, OB1 (off by one)
I usually use Mozilla or FF depending on the computer. The no javascript comment was based on OB1. I checked multiple browsers for the other comments. Note that IE6 generates the blue bar style results page.
OB1 does not have Javascript. It is useful for many things. It is not my principle browser, but it can render pages that fail with other browsers. Since there is no javascript it is safer than other browsers. It is also useful for testing how a page will render without javascript. I believe that OB1 is only available for Windows. http://offbyone.com/offbyone/
