I found some interesting stuff that might suggest that Google is thinking about creating a "Music Store"... Could it be something that would compete with iTunes or the future Microsoft Urge?

Garett, I've played around with your cool detective work as a basis. So I've entered variations like /musicplay or /musicblala and they all worked. It only stopped working as soon as I used to cut the word "music" itself. So this got me thinking it might be connected to Google's music search result service that has been part of their web search, and indeed, transferring the web search music URL back to the dl.google.com results in a hit:
http://dl.google.com/musica?aid=J9HVISH68zC&oi=musicr
So this is another sign of how Google copies existing structures onto their different services, like here:
