Writely Moving to Google Accounts In "A Few Days"Sam Davyson | Tuesday, September 19, 2006 17 years ago • 4,676 views |
Just got this email in from Writely:
------------------------------- Dear XX,
In a few days, we will update your Writely account to use your XXgmail.com Google Account registration settings.
This means you'll need to use your Google Account password when signing in, not your Writely password (if they're different).
If you've forgotten your Google Account password, just go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ForgotPasswd
Thanks! Google Writely Team -------------------------------
Maybe at the same time they will relaunch Writely with a blue look? |

I kind of lean towards you here pd. I asked the Writely team billion times when they gut ugly interface was going to change. Every time the answer was "Not any time soon" |

Has anybody else been able to create a writley account using a Google Groups email address like xxxxxxxgooglegroups.com? I did that and it worked but I'm not sure what will happen after the migration to google accounts. |

"If you've forgotten your Google Account password, just go to www.google.com/accounts/Forgot ..."
Hahaha, if there was one password I wouldn't forget I think it would be my Google password.
Although I guess you could have everything autosaved and such. |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
pd 2 MB has always been the norm for images.
I've got it. Finally. |
/pd | 17 years ago # |
Dpic: why worry, just log into with your google account
|
DPic | 17 years ago # |
I know but I'm just curious. I have nothing saved under the google groups account, but as far as I know there is no way to log into a google account with a google groups email |

I was just thinking... isn't it odd that Google sent out an email about this for Writely? When a similar process recently occurred with Blogger, Google didn't do this – they just started updating the web site.
Any good reason? or do you think its just a little disorganization / non-uniformity on Google's part?
I've always been a little confused by Writely for the following reasons: 1. It has never been integrated into any other part of Google. 2. There have never been any noticeable program updates (have I missed any?) besides maybe the ability for anyone to sign up without an invite. 3. Eric Schmidt has made comments to the effect that Google does not plan to develop a web based word processor; they only plan to implement Word processing as various web platforms require it.
To me, the only two things that seem to have been directly impacted due to the Writely acquisition are Google Spreadsheets (particuarly the sharing and simultaneous editing capability) and Google Calendar for its sharing capabilities. |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
1. Writely is a fairly new acquisition 2. Writely is a fairly new acquisition 3. Schmidt is famous for playing with words.
I read Google Spreadsheets were developed using technology acquired years ago.
More info on Writely http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Writely
Writely team has said they would email users days before the moving happens. I guess Writely is doing this because Word Processing may have some sensitive documents and users would want to know about any changes before hand.
I think it's great that Writely has moved to Google Accounts so quick vs. Blogger taking forever.
The faster the better for Google ;) |

On a Google Account note: I can't wait to get the same email about Adsense. |
Sohil | 17 years ago # |
I don't know why Adsense does this. But on a side note Yahoo Publisher also makes you create a new account "using" your Yahoo ID |

just an update on google's migration process......
Dear xxxxx,
In a few days, we will be switching over to Google Accounts for Writely registration and sign-in.
To make things simple, we will create a new Google account for you at xxxxxx*nongmail address* as part of the migration process.
You don't have to do anything different – just sign in as usual, and your documents will be right there.
For more information about signing into Writely with your Google Account, see the FAQ at http://www.google.com/support/writely/bin/topic.py?topic=8615
Thanks! Google Writely Team |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
I just got that too and came here to post about it... but you beat me to it Writer Shore! :-) |
Tony Ruscoe | 17 years ago # |
Just before anyone posts here saying it's now live, it was already mentioned by TonyB in this other Writely Migration thread... ;-)
