So apparently, BEAUTY is apart of their strategy to allure visitors

Beatuy? Huh? Where?
I think that a clearer version is much more attractive. |
What a shame that pretty pictures don't help to find what you were looking for... |
I like Ask, but I can't get use to it. I've been using Google for nearly 7 years now and i'm use to the SERP. I probably could get use to a different interface however I don't think it's worth my effort. |
Here's what I get when I enter ask.com – it's actually quite ugly:

As far as the background themes goes, Google released an actual design job whereas Ask simply went for the clip arts collection – it's much too obtrusive, and not integrated into the overall page design. |
Philipp, I disagree about the obtrusiveness. It feels like a desktop background would, though I really like their use of bold colors. If it had appeared anywhere besides the frontpage, it definitely would distract from other page elements, so I think they've implemented this just right.
I can tell because I found myself immediately wishing Google looked similar. Also, besides the clip art the new results are actually somewhat surprising as well. I wrote the whole thing up if anyone's interested: http://symbii.com/stories.php?sid=581&tid=55 |
Must be a matter of taste then, I take back my accusations against Ask :)
(I'm not really a wallpaper type of guy I guess, I never use one on Windows...) |
Philipp, this will actually be a nice upcoming feature for you then (emphasis mine):
"Ask.com has also revamped its home page, adjusting the look and feel and giving users the power to customize the page's background. Today, they can choose from eleven different "skins," ***but later this summer, users will also have the power to upload their own background images.***"

If this "ask 3d" turd actually gains them market share, the world is slightly corrupt. |
