You can create as many folders as you want with the same name :) You can also create folders that don't have a name (just hit Enter). |
Thats pretty strange but true. |
I worked with the new interface and think it's still some way to go to be streamlined. Example: when I create a new folder, and "open" that folder (or focus), why isn't a new document I'm creating now placed inside that folder? Also, I noticed sometimes the folder display is out of sync with what you saved, e.g. I had the case where I put something in it, the folder would even read "(2)" documents, but I had to close the window and re-open before it would show the second document in that folder. Something else I found weird is that Documents and Spreadsheets seem to behave differently when it comes to auto-saving. |
There are some names you can't use when you're opening a folder on Gmail.
Can someone check if this applies on Docs too? |
Well, after a short time playing with the folders, i guess you can call whatever you'd like to a folder.
I even tried some different combinations of " presently " or " presentations " and so forth. But nothing unusual seems to happen. :/ |
I guess Google decided to show this feature in the D&S What's New page just now:

Saw that two days ago or so... Not "just now"
On a related note: we're "A Bit Closer to Google Presentation" http://googlified.com/2007a-bit-closer-to-google-presentation/ |

Seems to be the case. You can call them "Document" and "Spreadsheet" too though, so it shows they're not using the same approach as Gmail.
To get the list of documents, they actually do a post to http://docs.google.com/vr with the following parameters (amongst others):
start=0 numResults=50 sort=3 view=3 doctype=doc
This returns a JSON response with all documents and collaborators. The doctype can be either "doc" or "spread". However, whether you pass through "pres" (assuming that's the docTypeId for Presentations) or "test" both return the same response, so their logic isn't exclusive. |
