I was looking at the zeitgeist today and noticed that Afghanistan's top query was Afghanistan look below:
Afghanistan – Popular Queries: June 2007
1. afghanistan 2. ako (Army Knowledge Online) 3. kabul 4. bbc 5. mypay 6. Afghanistan 7. ILO 8. ako webmail 9. acbar 10. afghan music 11. افغانستان (Afghanistan) 12. meebo 13. عشق (Love) 14. katrina kaif 15. مادر (mother)
Does anyone find it strange that they search for themselves so much. Are they stupid? "Oh crap where do I live again? Googl, ok. emmm... Af-ghan-is-tan. Oh, the middle east. I knew that" I mean query 1,6,and 11 are all afghanistan. And also why do they search for mother? Is it a weird porn fetish?
The answers we'll never know..... |
For my understanding, Google Zeitgeist takes only one part of the query rather than the whole. So they might be searching for "Afghanistan food", "Afghanistan war" and such such.
BTW, people in the US search (USA|"United States"|America) as much as (or more than) they do with "porn". http://google.com/trends?q=usa%7Camerica%7C%22united+states%22%2C+porn&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 |
mayb they wanna search for websites that would provide services for their country? Afghanistan news , maps , shops , wutever... |
Let's see: Internet users = 0.1% of population (http://opennet.net/research/profiles/afghanistan) Population = 31,889,923 (http://www.aneki.com/Afghanistan.html)
=> Internet users = 31,890
Google users = x% of Internet users
You can't draw conclusions from a such a small number of users. |
