An article about the rumor of a Google linux desktop appears in THE REGISTER in Jan 2006 – it just made the homepage a few minutes ago.

Lets see how long it stays before it gets buried (if it does at all)

Google is not developing a desktop Linux distro for non-Googlers. They currently can't win from Windows – that requires more than a great operating system. The patent thing is just because Google is not evil and because it wants to protect itself for some lawsuits, being one of the world's greatest Linux users itself.
