The collapse of Mayor Gavin Newsom's ambitious plan to bring free wireless Internet access to San Francisco dealt a blow to Google Inc., which had hoped to use the system as a test-bed for an array of new products.

It seems unclear whether Google will decide to go on alone. Given what I've heard of their experiences with SF politics (namely the Board of Supervisors), I wouldn't be surprised if they just abandoned it, but it would be a shame. |
