Perhaps unintentional – but the updated news submissions are now so numerous – that in a sense – analogies could be made to Digg or NowPublic.
Instead of VOTES – you judge the popularity by: PageViews and the Time It Stays on Page One, The Comments and additionally, if it actually makes it to the BLOG.
The Top Members page is equivalent to what Digg had began, it details Submission links and Pageviews and Most Popular Submissions.
A major part of the popularity has been NOT needing to sign in or become a member to submit – but that does have one flaw in the sense that one can not upload one's own icon or image for those who want to represent themselves via their chosen image.

Also, the types of people who visit are usually savy in the field of SEO, so in terms of natural selection, the overall forum maintains a higher level of sophistication unlike most search forums which are filled with newbies. |
Very true
see http://blogoscoped.com/forum/109321.html people have started asking on GB for what Google is planning :)
Credit goes to the simplicity of the forum. I'm with Philipp on not allowing you to change your icon yourself. It will add crap when people will start putting up anything(unmoderated) like in other forums

<<A major part of the popularity has been NOT needing to sign in or become a member to submit >>
That's the main reason I love this forum, there's no need to log-in and yet the spam levels are low without the need of CATCHPAs. Also the level of the comments is far above the "lol!!!11!!" etc. from other forums and no one shouting "First" [exceptions include http://blogoscoped.com/forum/109070.html]
Also being able to create Off Topic posts every so often add more fun to the forum (eg pronouncing names)
How ever I would not compare Blogoscoped to Digg or even other forums it is unique and in a category of it's own and it's brilliant! |
<< ... yet the spam levels are low ... >>
I think you'd be surprised to find how much spam is manually deleted. It's not absolutely loads but it's still quite significant. |
Tony Then Thank You to every one who moderates the posts for doing a fantastic job :D |
*retracts earlier comment about spam levels* :D |

Everyone faces such issues of SPAM comments
Kudos to moderation team of outer-court. |
