Will this software be discontinued – there has been no update in 21/2 years – so users are now worried – according to this article

Maybe Google just meant for them to switch to the online version they created with it....
Why has it taken three years for us to hear that they've been pissed off? |
I never understood why anyone would use a JavaScript-based solution given that log files create so much less hassle. JS-based solutions miss out on users with JavaScript deactivated, users with googleanalytics.com in their ad filter, crawlers, and so on. They annoy users when slowing down things (that was the reason I put it in the ad filter), and unnecessarily hand over visitor data.

Logger, but JavaScript-based solution also have some big pros: - you can measure a returning user, based on cookies (the "absolute unique visitor" value in GA... not like typical IP session tracking) - you can measure the screen resolution and so on - it's easy to set-up on mostly any system (a blog, any homepage from some service where you don't get to see the direct log files...) |
There's a page where you can download trial version of the program... http://www.google.com/analytics/urchin_downloads.html
I remember seeing a page a while back saying that they will release a new version of the software later this year. Can't find it though. |
Google has been testing the next version of Urchin in a limited beta since earlier this year. Look guys, Google Analytics has been a huge success for a reason: Google focuses well. As an Urchin user, I don't mind waiting a few more months for the next version of Urchin 6. |
