In very unGoogle like fashion the "Google Calendar Guide" in the Google Calendar Help Group posted the following:

"Hey everyone – thanks for the loud and very clear feedback on your
desire for a to-do/task list feature. We're pretty passionate about to-
do lists here as well, and we've got something in the works. Of
course, we're working to add our special Google secret sauce to the to-
do lists space (which can take some time to get right,) so we don't
have something to announce just yet, but the entire team is listening
to these threads closely.

Please be patient – we'll have more to talk about soon."

It might well be another 'comforting techniques' just to let users anticipate ... and a side note: Live releases Windows Live Event which is Facebook like event control ... maybe Google wants to add more Web 2.0 features to GCalendar as well ...

Google Reader staff did the same with search in Reader (probably because they also got fed up of hearing the number of times the same feature was requested).

Well, they eventually DID add the search functionality. (like two years later though)

It's going to be really sucks for me if they are releasing the feature "soon" because I just started developing my own to-do list app!
