Interesting article here http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/General+News/11733/Google+Israel+Head+Rejects+Censor+Role.html
I thought the most interesting line was: <<Recognizing the problem, however, Google has instituted a warning system for hate entries, taking viewers to a page warning that some of the search results may be offensive.>> |
Free speech is very important these days. So i think the CEO is right. |
Good catch Avrohom. I now asked Google for an example of such a warning page for hate content. |
I asked Google about the warning system the interview mentioned, and they say:
<<While we do not have such a system, we decided to respond to anti-semitic hate speech by placing advertisements next to any query for the word 'jew' – when you click on the ad, you go to a webpage that explains our search rankings, warns users that some of the results may be offensive, and notes that the opinions expressed certainly do not represent Google's views.>> |
Oh – It's been like that for a while |
Yep, I believe it was in 2004 when Google created such a warning page when you search for [jew], as that caused some controversy. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=jew http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2004_03_26_index.html |
