It has been a bad week. I've lost business and missed out on a home buying opportunity because apparently Google/Gmail "greylisted" my hosting service. My host (dreamhost) e-mail accounts forward to my Gmail account. I've had delays receiving e-mail up to 5 days.
Now with all the discussion of Gmail accounts being canceled, I'm very concerned about using Gmail. I've given my clients (and my realtor!) an alternative e-mail address (but that's just the beginning!)
Here's some discussion of the problems that thousands of Dreamhost customers are having getting their e-mail (that which is forwarded to Gmail):

and at Dreamhost (I'm also upset with Dreamhost because they've done a poor job of notifying customers, but they seem to be having trouble dealing with Google, too.): http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2007/11/17/gmail-forwarding-slowness/ |
To avoid those problems I suggest you to use Google Apps instead. If you do so, you'll change your MX records to point directly to Google servers, bypassing Dreamhost. Don't worry about the problem with canceled accounts, probably it's some kind of bug, not a massive random extermination. (hope we get news about that soon) Read more about MX records and take it in consideration, it's a good alternative and it'll solve your problem. |
