So, I log into gmail in Safari for Windows and lo and behold, 2.0, but in IE6, na-da, weird right?
So I click the link that says "New! AIM chat in Gmail" at the top of gmail and get taken to http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about_whatsnew.html#utm_source=gmaimhpp&utm_medium=et&utm_campaign=en where at the top it says in a box
"AIM, colored labels, group chat and rich emoticons only work in the latest version of Gmail, currently available for Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2. Please upgrade your browser to take advantage of these new features." But they both work in Safari for Windows for me.
Also "Upgrade" is linked to https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=76137 which reads "We've added some great new features to Gmail. To check them out, please upgrade your browser to either Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or Internet Explorer 7 (with Google Toolbar)." are they trying to imply that these are better than Safari, and other browsers that see the first message? This is very unprofessional in my opinion...
Further to this "Mozilla Firefox 2.0" is linked to http://mozilla.com, whils "internet Explorer 7" is linked to googles version, with toolbar at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Read the passage again
<<We've added some great new features to Gmail. To check them out, please upgrade your browser to either Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or Internet Explorer 7 (with Google Toolbar)>>
Does this mean it only works in IE7 with GToolbar installed? That's not the case, but all in all, i find this all VERY misleading, unprofessional, and it shows favouritism to IE7 and FF.
I might be picking this up wrong, but "Upgrading" to IE7 doesn't sound linke much of an upgrade at all.

It works here, but there are some bugs yet. The most annoying is the contact list that seems to disappear sometimes.
Other minor "bug" is the automatically focus that GMail's tab gets(2 or three times) while it's loading.
So I changed my bookmark to point to ?ui=1 until these bugs are up. |
Maybe the communication is not great, but Gmail works in Safari 3 and will certainly work soon in IE6. Google didn't want to imply those two browsers are the best, just that Gmail 2 only works if you use them (they forgot to add Safari 3). |
