Well, I certainly hope so.

While I make fairly full use of their existing offerings, including Docs, Pages, Aps and the earlier stuff, there are one or two glaring errors and omissions in these services that while frequently documented in the various help groups have never even been acknowledged, let alone fixed by the company.

Don't get me wrong, they are head and shoulders above Yahoo when it comes to supporting and integrating their various products, but to me, their lack of attention to a few key areas can only mean that those areas are being totally re-worked, making all but the critical fixes to the soon to be discarded code a waste of time.

Of course if I'm wrong about this, I'll eventually be jumping up and down on Google like I currently do on Yahoo. Just because a service is "free" (and especially now that Google collects funds for extended capabilities) doesn't mean that the services should be intentionally and indefinitely left in an unfinished state.

Let's hope so. It's been a long wait.

I just cant wait for Jotspot to be fully intergrated with Docs'. I was an early adopter of jotspot even before it was bought by Goog's. Its a real smart application that can neatly tie in with Docs , blogs, wiki's,email. Lookin foward to seeing a holistic integrated platform!!

I'm not sure if this means anything-- actually i'm pretty sure it doesn't and it's just a page that hacen't been updated. But if you log into Google pages at https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=pages it says "Sorry, we are unable to offer new accounts today. We appreciate your interest and invite you to add your Gmail address to our wait list. We'll let you know when we've enabled your account. — The Google Page Creator team"

[put at-character here]Sam Davyson this no longer seems to work http://blogoscoped.com/forum/74017.html#id74049

there are more apps you can add at
http://www.jot.com/gallery/index.php?webspace=http://sgd.jot.com/

Also, the account i created a while ago says i can no longer access your jotspot site thingy

DPic, that's the old login page back from when the first launched Google Page Creator and didn't allow sign-ups. If you logout of your account and go to http://pages.google.com you'll see that your get redirected to this page:

https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=pages&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fpages.google.com%2F&ltmpl=yessignups

(Notice the "ltmpl=yessignups" parameter.)

I think jotspot has already been launched and its wiki technology continues to be integrated into other products.

Anyone remember the Knols project?

beussery [PersonRank 10]

Yeah, if you check your JotSpot account you should see "Knowledge Base" which seems to have lots in common with "Knol". ;)

My guess is that JotSpot's "Knowledge Base" is the framework for Google Knol.

Bets anyone?

Am I right, has there been some changes today?

I think until yesterday sites.google.com/a gave a 404 .

Now after the login the system tells:
The page you requested is invalid.

http://sites.google.com shows Google's homepage.

Possibly but I'm not sure.

As Ionut points out, http://sites.google.com shows Google's homepage and that's been happening for a while now. Going to http://sites.google.com/a/google.com has been redirecting to Google's login for Sites on Google Apps for a while now too.

However, I don't ever recall trying just http://sites.google.com/a so that could be new. (It seems to redirect to a non-Google Apps login page for the "jotspot" service that doesn't exist.)

I wonder if Page Creator will continue to exist or Google will convert all the existing sites to JotSpot wikis.

Why is there so much speculation about that? We know of a new service called Google Sites. Why would Google have Google sites AND Google Pages? It seems save to assume that Google Pages will become Google Sites. And why in the world woul dGoogle just make all currently existing pages on Google Pages wikis? Doesn't it just make sense that Google Pages will be renamed Google Sites with wiki *capabilities*? That doesn't mean your site will become a wiki but that you'll be able to control what people have what privileges over what pages. It'll just be adding a bunch of features to Google Pages and renaming it Google Sites.

Google Sites is based on for what is currently JotSpot, which is currently corporate wiki software that Google acquired a while back. I read somewhere (can't remember where), but Google Sites wont just be Jotspot when released – it will include other features for creating websites such as static pages (ala. Google Pages). We'll probably (hopefully) see some integration of Picasa Web Albums and Blogger at the same time.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, I wonder if Google will be pushing users to create as many different Wikis as possibler as a way to compete against Wikia (the corporate arm of Wikipedia) which hosts Wikis on many topics.

FYI – Zoli Erdos speculates that the launch could be imminent:

I don't know if this is new, but http://pages-beta.google.com redirects to https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=jotspot&passive=true&nui=1&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fpages-beta.google.com%2F&followup=http%3A%2F%2Fpages-beta.google.com%2F with an invalid request message.

I'm pretty sure it just used to return a 404...

Honestly i am VERY excited about this offering, which i am expecting to become a true collaboration for small teams platform for free. This would be simply awesome. Integration of gmail+docs+calendar+notebooks+talk+wikis+project planner will CHANGE MY LIFE.

Ok, i'm acting up right there, but i have many great hopes for this, especially because the google groups is just not enough for my needs as a collaboration platform. I am usually reluctant to betas, but i really would sign up the second i fugure out where to do it in this case.

BTW, if anyone from Google reads this, i hope the migration from my group to Sites will be supported somehow.
