I think, It is hard for Google to dicide, cause have too many Memorial Days in a day. But, with some simple tips, Google will out of these troubles.

2.Then, like the Adsense below, use arrow to select the Doodles

I don't like these ideas..
It's a homepage, which lets you search in..
It's not something you need to play around with it..

This is exactly why Google made iGoogle.

Cool, I just test it in iGoogle.com. I like it.

For the different voices, my way is add all, or remove all.

Add all, setup this script on the homepage, Google is not only a place for searching, also a place for fun.

Remove all, forget Doodle on the homepage.

As i said above,
That's exactly why Google made iGoogle.
So you can add neat stuff to your personalized homepage, plus the ability to search.
After all, not all peopel think like you. Some want a clean homepage, click 'search' and that's pretty much it. They might enjoy once in a while the doodles, but nothing more than that.. :)
