Then people who got recycled email addresses would complain about all the spam they receive even though they didn't even publicize their email ...

Your right.
Can't someone who accidentally deleted his Gmail account, get it back?

Disagree. I don't think it's possible to "accidentally" delete a Gmail account. You may regret deleting it, but there's no way that you clicked "Delete Gmail Service", checked the box saying you were sure you wanted to delete your Gmail address, entered a new email address, typed in your password and finally clicked "Remove Gmail" by accident!

LOL @ Tony :-D

If addresses COULD be recycled, I think it would pose a security risk. If other website accounts were left associated with that e-mail address, all the person would need to know is perhaps their username, and they could hijack their account.

Big no-no.

Also, I'm not sure I agree with the petition listing the Gmail address you want to get (even though there's only one "signature" so far):

-Have you accidentally deleted your Gmail address?

-Did some stupid guy who has your same name registered all the possible combinations of his name (which is also yours!) and now he only uses one email address?

-Did someone with your same name sign up for Gmail and passed away?

Buy a domain and you'll have any email address you want. And Google Apps (http://google.com/a) lets you use the same familiar Gmail interface.

this issue has already been addressed- they will not under any circumstances recycle an email address. absolutely no chance.
