Basically Google is rolling out the option to always use a https: address rather than the http: one. There's been quite a few GM scripts to do this for a while, but they are officialy adding it in the settings now.
I don't have it yet :( |
[Moved from "Gmail Square and https", these were posted almost at the same time... -Philipp]
That little square in the top left hand corner of Gmail has gone now.
And they've added a option to always use https in the settings. I haven't got this yet though. http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/making-security-easier.html |
Awesome, now I can just type in gmail.com instead of https:// mail.google.com everytime I am on somebody else's computer! :) |
This is indeed very helpful.

[Moved from "New HTTPS config option turns Gmail Notifier unusable"]
I have observed that when I set the gmail option to always use HTTPS for browser connections Gmail Notifier starts getting an error message saying the "server is unavailable". It will only start functioning again if I go back and choose not to use HTTPS anymore.
This needs to be fixed. |
also Gmail for mobile (java app) seems to be affected by the global https switch :| |
Google Talk's mail notifier is not affected. I think it is recieving those notifications via the XMPP protocol. |
The Gmail Notifier seems to be affected. I turn HTTPS on, it stops working. I turn it off, it works again. |
Nifty. If only there was a setting to "always use ui=1"... |
I do not have this option on my Gmail account? |
When this option will be available in Google Apps? I use Gmail for my domain and I cannot force the https :( |
I was always using this option when starting surfing gmail from this url: https ://mail.google.com/mail
cheers

Why is Google not using an Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificate for GMAIL? |
