Presumably the site goes against YouTube's Terms of Service, which state in part:
"You agree not to use the Website, including the YouTube Embeddable Player for any commercial use, without the prior written authorization of YouTube. Prohibited commercial uses include any of the following actions taken without YouTube's express approval: ... use of the Website or its related services (such as the Embeddable Player), for the primary purpose of gaining advertising or subscription revenue"
It's a pity; I think there's great potential for this kind of site. |
Also, from the YouTube FAQ:
"We will, however, enforce our Terms of Use against, for instance, a website that does nothing more than aggregate a group of embedded YouTube videos and intentionally tries to generate ad revenue from them"

I wonder if they have this in their terms just to prevent someone creating a near-identical mirror of YouTube.com itself, and that they won't enforce this on smaller or medium-sized sites. On the other hand, as soon as YouTube would roll out ads to all embedded videos, probably they'd have reason to not mind even then. Does anyone know if YouTube ever enforced this policy? |
So what's the connection with YouTube? The site uses a custom player and hosts the FLV files. Are the files copied from YouTube? |
I'm with Ionut What's this got to do with YouTube? |
Hmm... the first video I checked on the site was showing the YouTube logo (The Look of Love) and I figured it's YouTube-based. See below two screenshots from different videos. I now see not all videos by far use that YouTube logo. I added a correction to the post just now!

There's a problem: the site doesn't use YouTube's API or YouTube's player, so it infringes the terms of use http://www.youtube.com/t/terms .
"You agree not to distribute in any medium any part of the Website, including but not limited to User Submissions (defined below), without YouTube's prior written authorization."
"You agree to not engage in the use, copying, or distribution of any of the Content other than expressly permitted herein, including any use, copying, or distribution of User Submissions of third parties obtained through the Website for any commercial purposes." |
Nothing big here, but I thought of mentioning "Best of YouTube" (link to the website and the podcast) I'm using with my iPod:
