I'm fairly excited about the new phone, and i wanted to post some links to some stories about the G1 and Android and see what you all thought.

Android: It’s not about Sex, Excitement, or Cool

This is pretty much what i've been saying. I think the OS is wonderful, although the hardware isn't slick like the iPhone, it's still great.

Why The T-Mobile G1 Is Better Than The Apple iPhone

Of course, there are still things that the iPhone is much better for, but overall the G1 is better as a mobile device. The iPhone is still better for those with specific interests like more music oriented use.

Why iPhone developers should defect to Android

This is just an article about why Android is a much better platform for developers. There's not much to say about that, i don't think. Android will be released on new phones and i don't think it'll be short of developers or applications.

They didn't talk about it much, but they did mention at the press conference that T-Mobile will be launching the largest ad campaign they ever have for a mobile device. I'm sure Google will do its part as well. Do you think this will amount to much? What do you think of this video for use as a TV ad? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZHgZr3SXCA

So what do you all think? Do you want the G1? How do you think it compares to the iPhone? How well do you see it doing in the mobile market until the next Android devices come out?

I'm still crossing my fingers about a new grandcentral. The last post to their blog on April 22 to keep feature requests coming and that they were working hard on the next version. http://blog.grandcentral.com/?p=145

Don't forget that Nokia is open-sourcing Symbian soon, which will change the game a bit. And, unlike the G1, tethering (using the phone as a cellular modem via USB or bluetooth) is not crippled on their phones.

A somewhat informative on-hands comparison between G1, the Experia, and LG Renoir, all billed as "iPhone rivals" appears in this week's BBC World cable channel's "Click" programme, also available online in Real Video, or "Windows" (Media?) streaming formats; the 5-minute segment starts approx. 16 minutes into the half-hour program

I was surprized by how chaotic the Android G1 appeared when both 2-dim scrolling, on-screen and physical buttons (not to mention navigational buttons and the trackball) were involved. Haven't watched the various net.videos of it before.....

I'll bet Android could/will help push Google Checkout a lot. I mean with that barcode scanning app, and online shoping wherever you go. Nothing surprising, just something that doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet.
