We have had this in the Netherlands for a long time now, it is nation-wide but minus the maps.

Or isn't this service unique in the world? |
Google is really good at taking things that we think are done and then doing them in ways that blow everyone away. They did this with websearch, they did it with maps, they did it with the online advertising model itself. I can imagine some amazing possibilities for this product. Imagine being able to go to one site, regardless of where you are in the world, and get directions from any place to any other place. It would be amazing to type in your home address in Boston and your hotel address in New York and it just tells you how to get there with dozens of different options, or even picks out the best way to do it – however you define "best," whether that's cheapest, easiest, shortest time, or the fact that it lets you swing by your mother's house on the way to New York. This could be a really amazing product if it's pulled off right. |
There's a service close to this for London at http://www.tfl.gov.uk.
