Hi,
I just found a blog post on a Polish blog, linked from one of the biggest Polish Internet portals (gazeta.pl) about hard corn porn images being displayed on top of Google's result for "żona" (wife).
http://seo.blox.pl/2008/10/Google-promuje-pornografie.html
They are displayed in generic Google web search results, as a typical "images for..." box on top of the results. They are extremely graphical and they are also displayed when the safe search is on.
At the moment I can't reproduce the box on top of the web results, but I can see the images as top image search results – also displayed despite the safe search being on.
Those are the image results for "żona" (wife): [Warning! They are extremely graphical, and certainly NOT safe for work]: images.google.pl/images?q=%C5%BCona&hl=pl

I think that goes in other languages too (even with safe search on in some cases)
The driving factor might be the use of this term in porn industry :) |
BTW, the blog post uses the "don't be evil" motto, probably to suggest this behavior goes against it. I don't agree. It's not like Google decided to show hard corn porn in random places to attract more users. If anything, it shows a weakness of the Google automatic algorithm, and certainly not company's moral weakness ;)
One of the images is labeled "ja i moja żona" ("my and my wife"), so it easy to understand why Google thought It was relevant. But at the same time I think this is a real problem. I would hate to see a kid searching with safe mode turned on, being presented with those, awful images. |
(When you say "hard corn porn" do you mean "hardCORE porn"?) |
(Yeah, I do. And I DO know how to spell "hardcore", so I'm not really sure what happened... probably spell check) |
