Can someone help? About ten years ago in PC mag someone asked how to do this. Now I am sorry I never took notice of the answer. I write business programs and most icons require text details.

I assume you are asking about Windows shortcut icons, right?
It is a registry setting, and you can use some kind of tweak software to use icons without the arrow. I use "Ultimate Windows Tweaker" by Vista Club.. Google the term "windows tweak" and you shell find..

Thanks 'Arie' will try. I first thought I was on the wrong forum.

Arie, I tried Ultimate Windows Tweaker, but did not realise it was for Vista.
I'm still on XP. (Was good enough for my gramps -haha)
Then I tried the others but unregistered downloads only allow about 20%
usuage. Frankly, messing with the registry brings out the yellow in me.

Oddly, I have a partitioned drive with WIn98 on the other partition. (for those old programs grannnie so loves – haha) Something odd must have happened to the registry settings because all the arrows on the icons were cut down to the first part of the arrow. I do have Registry Mechanic (registered) for XP and Win98 but they only clear errors and do not allow modifications. Please let me know if you come up with a fresh suggestion.
