Duplicate pages - a way to index AJAX pages?

Couldl this feature be used to make a search index for heavy AJAX pages (similar to Google Maps etc.)? One would simply do a "database dump" in a simple text way for each record in the database and use the
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/link-to-main-page" />
tag to let search engines know which is the actual "page" to be shown?

In that case, the contents of these two "pages" would not be the same. I am not sure how engine would respond to that...

Or is there any other way of indexing "pages" hidden within AJAX applications?
