Richard Stallman of the Free Software Foundation and gnu.org has written some concerns and recommendations concerning open source Javascript applications such as Google Docs.
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/javascript-trap.html
The first concern is that the source code that is available is not the original source code, but a derivative that is not reasonable to use for further development. This might have been done to reduce the size of the code.
The second concern is once someone modifies a Javascript application there is no easy way to make it run in the proper context.
He also proposed some possible future remedies.
