You can now "sign in to YouTube with your YouTube OR Google Account". It's not an unified login.

I've just changed my YT password to match my Google one just so it seems that I'm still logging in with my Google Account. |
If you type your username of your Gmail account it will work. |
Only if your username / password are the same for YouTube, otherwise you get this error:
