The latest algorithms apply ever more sophisticated filtering – based on search words, user choices, purchases, a whole host of cues – to determine what the reader is looking for without knowing they’re looking for it.

Don't really understand what the system will look like. Just two newspapers getting special treatment should be interesting to watch, though (the NYT is also often covering Google – e.g. "Geniuses at Play, on the Job" – so it's also interesting from that perspective).
