Win Your Gmail (Round 2)Philipp Lenssen | Wednesday, June 9, 2004 20 years ago |
Whoever will post the shortest Google.com search using a single text made up of letters A-Z which does not return any results will be awarded a Gmail by tomorrow.
For example, searching Google for sxzxztx http://www.google.com/search?q=sxzxztx does not return a single result. The search has 7 letters, so if nobody would find a search with 6 letters or less, the Gmail would go to this searcher.
Please post your shortest search to the forum. You can provide up to 3 entries. If several entries have the same length, the first one who posted this entry will win. You also need provide your first and last name as well as your current email. I will check back here in around 24 hours. Good luck!
Please do not turn on safe search or any other advanced options in Google. It should work with a link like this: http :// www.google. com/search?q=sxzxztx |

Again, the characters you are allowed to use are only those:
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z
(No Umlaute or accented characters.)
It also must be www.google.com, not a local version of Google. |

Sorry, I'm reposting the link, turning off safe search and stuff: http://www.google.com/search?q=qexqn |
Philipp Lenssen | 20 years ago # |
David, no problems – thanks. Your first and second link are both valid, and if you want, you have 2 more tries. Since "qexqn" has 5 letters, whoever wants to win has to find a Google search with 4 letters or less! |

It took me hours to do this. I have tried all 4 letter combinations, and no luck.

Finding a five letter combination didn't prove too difficult: http://www.google.com/search?q=qfjjx
Perhaps a more interesting challenge would be the four letter combination with least results? This is as low as I found: http://www.google.com/search?q=jqzq |

It wasn't too tough. I'm not sure that 4 will be possible. Of course there's only 456976 combinations. |
Philipp Lenssen | 20 years ago # |
Note that it must have zero results to win. (Sorry if there is no possibility to find anything with zero results using four letters only, in that case the Gmail goes to the first who posted five letters!)
Note a similar contest has been started at French Google blog Zorgloob: http://www.zorgloob.com/2004/06/concours-gmail.asp |

I'm afraid all the 4 letter combinations are listed here (and indexed by google)

OK, thanks, I do not believe there will be others who can find something with 4 letters, so I will say stop! And the winner is...
David Håsäther, for "qexqn".
Note I will start a 3rd round soon... |
