App Store Blues

Ever since opening of iPhone App Store I've been wondering about bench procedures (as opposed to philosophy of rules) in their approval process: do they submit each and every "candidate-app" to mechanized checks of prohibited private APIs, etc. – in effect partially decompile and inspect the code at "suspect" breakpoints so as to weed out potentially rules-abusing apps? Do they have ?any? impersonal tools/ mechanisms in place to narrow down the number of apps needing closer inspection. Or is it all done ocularly/ manually by fresh-out-of-college CS-grads sequestred deep in the bowels of 1 Infinite Loop Drive, Cupertino, CA?

So far, I have not come across any press report dealing with this particular issue. And yet I know, that, with reported 10,000 applications submitted each week, Apple must have developed some methods of dealing so-so efficiently with this constant avalanche. Which are...?

“[...] Apple says it receives more than 10,000 application submissions each week. Most become available in the App Store within two weeks [...] Apple executives are quick to point out the importance of ensuring that third-party applications run smoothly and provide a high-quality experience for users. [...] Apple says it has increased the number of product reviewers working on the App Store”
