Google's New Look

Its not that I don't like the new look. I'm used to how Google has different looks most days. In fact I hope that they still have the changing for the holidays and such. What I do not like is the sidebar. I absolutely detest it! It causes me to be very perturbed and it only results in getting in the way. I do hope that they change it back to the way it used to be. I use Google everyday and if its gonna be like this for a while I'll have to stop. It just bothers me to much.

You can set your Google preferences to remove the "everything" sidebar. This will produce a classic style search and results pages as your default.

If you do not want that to be your default you can use the following search page only when you want the classic style.

On May 5, 2010, Google changed their results pages. They changed the layout, eliminated some features, and forced the "everything" sidebar. There was still an unofficial setting to produce classic results pages from searches.

This setting now seems to produce the sidebar style results page for me when using Mozilla. Using IE or OB1 seem to still produce classic results pages. Since some browsers produce the desired classic results, Google's technology must still support it. It seems that Google is going out of their way to force the sidebar on some users that have specifically chosen to not have it.

You may want to read my comparison of this attitude to that of Coca-Cola's when they changed their formula. http://blogoscoped.com/forum/170629.html
